Peastone,
good long lasting surfacing, will move so requires
some maintenance at slides etc to keep level,
will form hardpan and requires roto tilling to
loosen up, requires surround to keep in place

stone, similar to peastone, but does not form
hard pan as often, cleaner, better cushioning
from falls, a bit more expensive , usually around

Playcrete
Wood Fibre, is an engineered wood fibre product
which forms a dense mat after a week or so and
then requires little maintenance, comes with life
time poly surround which is 5" wide and 12"
tall to contain the wood fibre. Has excellent
CSA ratings and only requires topping up when
it wears down to 6" or so. Cats and animals
do not like it. Usually around $5.25 (Image

Playcrete
Chunk Rubber, 6" of chunk rubber will
exceed CSA requirements for heights to 9' or most
spiral slides. More costly than wood fibre but
lasts for ever. Requires maintenance to keep it
in place as it does not mat like Playcrete wood
fibre. Comes in Black, brown, dark red or tan.
Usually about $9 per square foot or $660 per ton.(Image

Artifical Grass, Lasts a long time, virtually
no maintenance, no smell, does not get hot and
can be easily repaired. Requires a prepared base
so dirt must be removed, granular mix added and
compacted where needed.

in Place Rubber, requires a prepared base
so grass and dirt must be removed, granular mix
added and compacted. Lasts a long time, virtually
no maintenance, gets hot in summer and children
can get friction burns when falling, has initial
rubber smell. Also a more expensive option is
man made rubber top with does not have such a
strong smell and the colour is more permanent.
Comes in different thicknesses to allow for play
structure heights. Goes from $10 to $16 per square

SurfacePlay
Durable Carpet, requires a prepared base
so grass and dirt must be removed, granular
mix added and compacted. Long-lasting with virtually
no maintenance, Surface Play has no smell, does
not get hot and can be easily repaired. Increase
your play value with inserts such as hopscotch,
tic tac toe, bike tracks etc. The cost usually
