SURFACING

There are many surfaces that meet CSA Fall Height requirements, pick the right one for your play area.

Also available, vertical padding for your building's walls and columns to keep kids safe in play areas.
Peastone, good long lasting surfacing, will move so requires some maintenance at slides etc to keep level, will form hardpan and requires roto tilling to loosen up, requires surround to keep in place or berm. Usually around $4 per square foot. (Image for illustration only)
Metering stone, similar to peastone, but does not form hard pan as often, cleaner, better cushioning from falls, a bit more expensive , usually around $4.75 per square foot. (Image for illustration only)
Playcrete Wood Fibre, is an engineered wood fibre product which forms a dense mat after a week or so and then requires little maintenance, comes with life time poly surround which is 5" wide and 12" tall to contain the wood fibre. Has excellent CSA ratings and only requires topping up when it wears down to 6" or so. Cats and animals do not like it. Usually around $5.25 (Image for illustration only)
Playcrete Chunk Rubber, 6" of chunk rubber will exceed CSA requirements for heights to 9' or most spiral slides. More costly than wood fibre but lasts for ever. Requires maintenance to keep it in place as it does not mat like Playcrete wood fibre. Comes in Black, brown, dark red or tan. Usually about $9 per square foot or $660 per ton.(Image for illustration only)
Playcrete Artifical Grass, Lasts a long time, virtually no maintenance, no smell, does not get hot and can be easily repaired. Requires a prepared base so dirt must be removed, granular mix added and compacted where needed.
Poured in Place Rubber, requires a prepared base so grass and dirt must be removed, granular mix added and compacted. Also a more expensive option is man made rubber top with does not have such a strong smell and the colour is more permanent. Comes in different thicknesses to allow for play structure heights. Goes from $10 to $16 per square foot. (Image for illustration only)
